Sheers and Voiles

Sheer curtains are made from light, see through fabrics and they can be used on their own or in conjunction with other types of curtains. They are great for giving light amounts of privacy while still allowing a room to feel light and airy. Voiles are also made from lightweight fabrics such as cottons, and they give a lovely elegant feel to your home without making it feel hot or overwhelmed.

Lace Curtains

Lace curtains are very light and see through so they can soften a window and give privacy without blocking the amount of light that enters the home. As well, they give a room a feeling of class and elegance. You can use them on their own but they are mostly used underneath other curtains.

Block Out Curtains

These curtains are made from very heavy fabrics and/or fabrics that have a special backing and their primary purpose is to block out heat and light from a room. They can be used in any room of the home depending on your requirements and they are available in a range of designs so that they are attractive as well as practical.
French Pleat Curtains: French pleat curtains have triple pleat sections that are pinched together at the bottom and spread out at the top. To use these curtains, you need special curtain rods that are designed to keep the pleats together properly. French pleat curtains are extremely formal and look great in living areas and bedrooms.

Tab Top Curtains

Tab top curtains hang straight down over the window and they are so called because they have several tabs at the top of the curtain that the rod goes through. The tabs are spaced evenly apart and so you can see the rod through the spaces of the tabs. Tab top curtains are economical and give off a great casual vibe but they are also versatile enough to use anywhere in the home.

Panel Curtains

Panel curtains can also be known as rod pocket, pole top or casement curtains. These curtains hang straight and they have one or more pockets at the top, and the curtain rod is threaded through this pocket. They are best used on windows where you do not have to open the curtains too often.

Cafe Curtains

Cafe curtains are most commonly used in the kitchen and they are great for adding privacy as well as creating a bit of a feature. They are installed inside of the window frame and they are generally placed in the middle of window section. If you want to cover the whole window, a valance is added on the top.

Beaded Curtains

If you’re after something unique, curtain wise, why not add a beaded curtain to your home? They give off a lovely contemporary, laid back vibe and they can be made from all different types of beads including glass, acrylic, shells, bamboo, gemstones, mirrors and more.

Fringes

There are several types of fringes to choose from including ball fringe, ribbon and string fringe, brush fringe, bullion fringe, and tassel fringe, just to name a few. Fringes can be used at the bottom of a swag or tail, under pelmets, from valances, and so forth.

Valances

There are many different types of valances, but they are essentially a frill of fabric at the top of a window. These serve the purpose of hiding a rod or track, and they are also a decorative feature in their own right, able to be used on their own or as part of a window treatment.

Tie backs

These are not only decorative but practical as they help to hold your curtains open. Tie backs are generally made from fabrics that have loops that anchor to a hook but you can also find tassel tie backs for that ornate, decorative look.

Hold backs

Like tie backs, these are used to keep curtains open but they are made from rigid materials.

Braids

These can embellish the curtains themselves or accessories such as pelmets and valances. Gimp braid is one such option. Woven ribbons also fall under the category of decorative braids.

Beaded trims

There are many different types of beaded trims available and these look fantastic used in window treatments.

Problem:
Dining Room window facing neighbor and brick wall

Solution:
Hunter Douglas Silhouette hides the wall, provides privacy, allows filtered light to enter the room.  Addition of drapery panels and decorative rod adds character and frames the opening.
